About Us

Mike Nye

Mike Nye started his work life in the grocery business. In his thirties, he went to repair school at Western Iowa Tech to learn instrument repair. He then worked at All Star Music for a year and a half, and Milano Music for a year and a half. He then started his own business in his house, where it grew for 15 years. Eventually he outgrew the place and opened a store front.

We have built the business on some basic principles. These principles were based on what was supposed to be a humorous sign that said you can have it fast, affordable, or good, but not all three. We think you CAN have all three!

Our goal is to have integrity, speed, affordability, and great service from the most educated staff we can find. All of our techs are NAPBIRT members who attend classes multiple times per year, to always be in the forefront of tools, technique and technology. This commitment, is what drives us to be the best and the fastest. We do not have a huge overhead, which allows us to compete at a price level that is hard to beat.

We do work for tons of schools, stores, and private customers that range from beginning students to internationally known professionals. ALL get the same level of commitment to service and excellence.

Jeff Johns

My luthiery and guitar repair journey started in 2015 when I enrolled, studied, and graduated from Roberto Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, Arizona, although I have always had a passion for music. Now in 2023 I have gained nearly 9 years experience in the field of guitar and stringed instrument repair. After graduating from Roberto Venn I worked as Buchanan Music’s head luthier in Mesa, AZ. At Buchanan Music I studied under Robert Buchanan, who has 30+ years of luthiery experience, and eventually took over as head luthier. I worked as a guitar tech at Buchanan’s for nearly 6 years before taking on my own business which I have done for the last 2 years, and no I’m very excited to be back in the shop setting hear at Mike Nye’s repair
